KLCC Fireworks

It was our first new year in KL so we wanted to make most out of it. Everyone suggested us to go KLCC park for the New year eve fireworks so we thought to give it a try. As the traffic after midnight was going to be horrible, so we booked a nearby hotel for over night stay.

Cabana Inn hotel is at walking distance from Twin towers and was within our budget. The hotel is old and everything inside reminds you of old hotel running to keep up with basic maintenance. I booked an extra bed but they provided us with only mattress. no breakfast but there are many restaurants outside hotel. 7-eleven and mynews.com are also next door. The HoHo bus stop#3 was also across the street. Aquaria KLCC, Petrosains Discovery Center, KL Tower are all at walking distance. It is strictly ok hotel , good if you need room to take rest in between you roam around the city.

We booked the stay from 31 Dec to 1 Jan. Once we checked in the hotel, we went to Delhi Royale for Buffet Lunch then walked back to win tower. the weather was good as there was no sun. We spent an hour in Suria KLCC and headed back to hotel to take rest and gear up for night out. We came back to KLCC around 6:30 PM and grab a table next to park view in Signature Food court at level 2. We decided to stay there as long as possible (which we hoped till mid night). Many people at tables near park view stayed there, hoping to watch the fireworks from inside. It was raining outside and the park was closed for fireworks preparation. Crowd was increasing for the concert before midnight celebration. Around 10 PM, the mall security started to inform people to vacate the seats near park view. They closed the gates from mall towards the park. They closed half of the lifts and by 10:30 PM, only the escalators that were coming down were open. All the shops were closed, and we had no other option than to move towards the exit. As we reached near the exit gate, there was very loud noise of toy horns just outside the gate. Our son is only 1year old so he got scared with the noise. There was barricade outside the exit gate and some security in khaki color dress. I just walked out of barricade when I realized my husband is not behind me. I turn around and saw him at the exit gate closing the ears of my son to control the noise. He also had stroller with him which he could not handle to I tried to go back to him. Now from this point everything went down hill. The security pushed me outside, screaming "GET OUT" at my face. I told him my baby is there at exit gate, he said he dont care and kept shouting "GET OUT". My husband somehow managed to come out and told the security guard to behave himself to which he shouted back " YOU BEHAVE YOURSELF AND GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE". I was furious but my husband asked me to move towards the fireworks area.

Now it was too noisy and as soon as I reached the fireworks area, I realized that this place is not for infants and senior citizens. Almost everyone had bought a toy horns and blowing it to create maximum noise. Now I am kind of person who like parting but this was more like I have come to a village fair where everyone playing with noisy toy. They dont care if anyone is feeling sick because of the noise they are creating. Majority of the crowd was just boys and girls of 20-25 years age group, smoking, drinking beer and blowing up the toy horns. To me, they look like losers who are trying to find meaning of their life in that noise. My son was sleepy but couldn't sleep due to noise. I dint expected a quiet crowd but this was too much. I was counting every minute to midnight.

Finally the clock stroke 12 and the 8-minute firework show began. Now Doubt it was beautiful. It was mesmerizing and amazing. once the show was over, we headed back to the hotel. Even there, we could hear the people blowing toy horns in street till 3 AM. Overall, we booked the hotel room, waited till midnight in noisy crowd with our 1yr old son and mom just to watch 8-minutes fireworks, it was NOT worth it. I saw people carrying their 6-7 year old kids because they are sleepy/ scared of the noise.

The management was horrible and crowd was terrible. People were not allowed to see the fireworks from inside the mall which is not good. They had no plan to take care of people with infants or senior citizens. They have straight forward rule: this fireworks show is free so they will not help you in such cases.

I will never suggest to go to fireworks show at KLCC, with family of infants or senior citizens. Also there is no need to go there before hand. I reached outside at 11:15 PM, and still see the whole firework show.
