KLCC Fireworks

It was our first new year in KL so we wanted to make most out of it. Everyone suggested us to go KLCC park for the New year eve fireworks so we thought to give it a try. As the traffic after midnight was going to be horrible, so we booked a nearby hotel for over night stay.

Cabana Inn hotel is at walking distance from Twin towers and was within our budget. The hotel is old and everything inside reminds you of old hotel running to keep up with basic maintenance. I booked an extra bed but they provided us with only mattress. no breakfast but there are many restaurants outside hotel. 7-eleven and mynews.com are also next door. The HoHo bus stop#3 was also across the street. Aquaria KLCC, Petrosains Discovery Center, KL Tower are all at walking distance. It is strictly ok hotel , good if you need room to take rest in between you roam around the city.

We booked the stay from 31 Dec to 1 Jan. Once we checked in the hotel, we went to Delhi Royale for Buffet Lunch then walked back to win tower. the weather was good as there was no sun. We spent an hour in Suria KLCC and headed back to hotel to take rest and gear up for night out. We came back to KLCC around 6:30 PM and grab a table next to park view in Signature Food court at level 2. We decided to stay there as long as possible (which we hoped till mid night). Many people at tables near park view stayed there, hoping to watch the fireworks from inside. It was raining outside and the park was closed for fireworks preparation. Crowd was increasing for the concert before midnight celebration. Around 10 PM, the mall security started to inform people to vacate the seats near park view. They closed the gates from mall towards the park. They closed half of the lifts and by 10:30 PM, only the escalators that were coming down were open. All the shops were closed, and we had no other option than to move towards the exit. As we reached near the exit gate, there was very loud noise of toy horns just outside the gate. Our son is only 1year old so he got scared with the noise. There was barricade outside the exit gate and some security in khaki color dress. I just walked out of barricade when I realized my husband is not behind me. I turn around and saw him at the exit gate closing the ears of my son to control the noise. He also had stroller with him which he could not handle to I tried to go back to him. Now from this point everything went down hill. The security pushed me outside, screaming "GET OUT" at my face. I told him my baby is there at exit gate, he said he dont care and kept shouting "GET OUT". My husband somehow managed to come out and told the security guard to behave himself to which he shouted back " YOU BEHAVE YOURSELF AND GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE". I was furious but my husband asked me to move towards the fireworks area.

Now it was too noisy and as soon as I reached the fireworks area, I realized that this place is not for infants and senior citizens. Almost everyone had bought a toy horns and blowing it to create maximum noise. Now I am kind of person who like parting but this was more like I have come to a village fair where everyone playing with noisy toy. They dont care if anyone is feeling sick because of the noise they are creating. Majority of the crowd was just boys and girls of 20-25 years age group, smoking, drinking beer and blowing up the toy horns. To me, they look like losers who are trying to find meaning of their life in that noise. My son was sleepy but couldn't sleep due to noise. I dint expected a quiet crowd but this was too much. I was counting every minute to midnight.

Finally the clock stroke 12 and the 8-minute firework show began. Now Doubt it was beautiful. It was mesmerizing and amazing. once the show was over, we headed back to the hotel. Even there, we could hear the people blowing toy horns in street till 3 AM. Overall, we booked the hotel room, waited till midnight in noisy crowd with our 1yr old son and mom just to watch 8-minutes fireworks, it was NOT worth it. I saw people carrying their 6-7 year old kids because they are sleepy/ scared of the noise.

The management was horrible and crowd was terrible. People were not allowed to see the fireworks from inside the mall which is not good. They had no plan to take care of people with infants or senior citizens. They have straight forward rule: this fireworks show is free so they will not help you in such cases.

I will never suggest to go to fireworks show at KLCC, with family of infants or senior citizens. Also there is no need to go there before hand. I reached outside at 11:15 PM, and still see the whole firework show.

Sunway Lagoon

I visited Sunway Lagoon with my husband, mother and 1yr old son on 27 Dec 2016. The starting of our visit was disappointing. After sometime things became normal.

I bought the tickets from 11street. I reached there at 9:40AM. There was a separate counter for redemption of e voucher which was not crowded. So getting the wristband was easy. I preferred loading the money earliest so that I can avoid e-load counter visit inside the park. I loved the idea of having money in my wristband. It is so convenient.
I had to carry some food because my mom cannot eat any food outside and she have many restrictions in her diet also like she cannot eat raw fruits and vegs, no leafy veg etc. I asked the Sunway lagoon people at the main entrance to verify my bag but they denied saying that they will only check my bag at 10AM. There was some confusion of the queue point as well because people were queuing up at wrong place. After that when they checked my bag , they denied the food entry. Now my position was worse because a) What will my mom eat, b) people behind me were eagerly waiting to get inside while I was explaining the bag checker about my mom’s medical condition and c) I myself wanted to go inside asap. He asked me to put the food in the locker provided outside (Charge RM 6, everytime you open it) and collect it later in evening or whenever we want during the day. That seemed fair. I took the 5-6 items in my hand and ran towards the locker. Now there is a catch. The locker system is automatically handled. You have to insert the money in exact amount. It will not return you the change if you have more. You cannot use your wristband to pay for the locker. I had only RM4, so rushed to the nearest store and ask for change, they said their cash drawer is locked and they are waiting for the authorized person to open it. Same was the response from other 2 food and merchandise counters outside. They dint even give me any polybag to put my items in it. They asked me to get the change from the ticket counter but there was a long queue so getting in front for the queue was out of question. Now I am kind of person who is among the first 8-10 people who enters any amusement park, there I was running to get the change carry 5-6 food items requesting people for change. So I involuntarily threw away the food and entered the amusement park.

By then, I was expecting some rush on the main must-do attractions. I rushed towards Scream coaster but it was closed because there was heavy rain, the day before, and hence the tracks were wet so we had to wait till the tracks dried off. So I rushed towards Grand Canyon river Rapids. It was also closed because the Sunway lagoon employees were still setting it up. By this point I was fuming because a) I expected the park to be open at 10am with all the rides running ( Much like they do in Universal Studio). b) I could have waited and arrange money change for the locker but I had to throw away the food (Which I completely hate)  to find out the rides are closed.

We moved towards Colorado Splash, which was open (Thank God !!), it was good. When we came back the GCRR was open so we went ahead. REMEMBER there is no rack to keep your small items like mobile or glasses. Ride was moderate, no surprises. In the meanwhile, My mom and son enjoyed the wildlife park. After this I went to Pirate’s revenge, I was amazing ride and I enjoyed the complete round. It stayed inverted atleast 3 seconds. During this, my mom, husband and kid went to Apache Pot and loved it. My mom and son headed back to wildlife and me and my husband went for Flying fox. It goes over the pool and it was amazing. It was my first zipline experience and I completely loved it. After this we headed towards Vuvuzela, it was amazing breathtaking experience. I would have done it again but queue got long by that time. So we moved towards african python. The ride was nice, riding a dark tunnel on double sitting tube. The person at the top should tell how to bent at the ending because most of the tubes were flipping once it landed in the water in end and riders go straight in the water. I felt like drowning but thankfully lifeguard saved me. We went to check on Scream coaster and it was open. I always chose to sit in front of rollercoaster to enjoy the most. It was worth it. I felt the ride duration was less.

After this we went to join my mom and son in wildlife park. I dint planned to visit it earlier because its a zoo but the exotic animals are so beautiful. White tiger, black panther etc… It was worth the visit. We went towards the Lost lagoon. By this time we all were hungry and thankfully there is an outlet named Sagar that serves North Indian cuisine. It is located at 2 places 1) In lost lagoon, next to the exit towards extreme park (This serves only rice dishes) and 2) In water park, at the entrance of vuvuzela ride. Much to our relief, it had dal rice which my mom can eat.

After meal, we went to Spongbob Splash adventure and Splish splash. My son totally enjoyed it. It was already cloudy so we dint stayed for Green slime show. I went jungle fury with my mom. They were only allowing team of four to queue up so we teamed up with another father son duo waiting in the line. My mom loved it, it was the only ride that she visited (Because she cannot go on the rides which have sudden movements). After this we went to surf beach, we were surprised as the water was warm. Leaving the boys in the pool, I and mom went to see waterplexx 5D. It was already dark cloudy with wind. There was no crowd. It was nice experience. When we came out it was started to rain. My mom started to shiver so went to the changing room near promenade. There was a hot air fan next to Burger king. After changing me, mom and my son enjoyed hot air there while having French fries and tea. During this, my husband visited waterplexx 5D and went to change.

It was already 5:15 PM, so I moved towards the another Sagar outlet with my son and got our dinner packed. My mother and husband joined me there. Leaving us to collect the parcel, My husband went to see Scream park (I had no intentions to visit it), it was strictly OK. On our exit, we purchased the photos at RM40 per copy. We headed to get the refund of our balance amount in the wristband.

Overall it was a nice getaway. We had to chose the attractions carefully so that my mom and son can also enjoy. So we dint visited the rides which are similar or we have visited alot in our previous other water park visits.

We dint took any locker inside, But it is good to have a locker. We also missed few attractions due to rain. Food outlets are lenty including subway, burger king etc. And yes food is bit expensive so make sure you have enough money in wristband.

We dint do any extreme park pay-per-ride attraction.

Note : Check the discounted tickets online and book because over the counter ticket queue was very long. We were 3 people, so we chose to book the cab from TTDI. public transport had its own hussle and not cheap went in group. I like the idea of booking the sunway hotel which provide complementary multiple entry to the parks.
